STATE-APPROVED PARENT-TAUGHT DRIVER EDUCATION (PTDE) + DPS PERMIT TEST
In Texas, first-time drivers under 18 must complete a state-approved 24-hour Driver Education course (License # C3319) before applying for a Texas Learner Permit and, later, a Driver License. Mansfield Driving Academy offers a convenient, fully online PTDE course you can complete from anywhere—no classroom required.
ABOUT THIS COURSE
This PTDE program is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) (License # C3319).
Includes the DPS Permit Test, so you can take your permit exam through our course instead of testing at the DPS. (Unlimited attempts included.)
100% online—works on mobile or computer. No apps or extra software to install.
Flexible pacing: log in/out anytime. Your progress is saved so you can continue where you left off.
Certificates are available within 24 hours
Includes required 14-hour and 30-hour driving logs at no additional cost.

Yes, all teens (14 thru 17) who wish to start driving (behind the wheel) must go through a structured driver training program. Training can be structured through an online format (either parent-taught or instructor-taught) or in a traditional program in our classroom.
The State of Texas allows 14 year olds to start driver’s ed classroom (24 hours)
HOWEVER, they cannot start the driving phase nor get a learner’s permit until their 15th birthday?
Get your permit in as little as 6 hours. Texas recognizes that students want their permit as quickly as possible. All of our programs begin with permit review. You do not have to take your permit test this early.
All teen driver’s ed consists of 4 phases.
Phase 1 – 24 hour course (online or classroom)
- Written Permit Test will take place in this phase.
Phase 2 – 14 hour Behind-the-Wheel instruction
- Direct instruction in the car (parent instructor or instructor)
Phase 3 – 30 hours of at-home practice
- Practice makes perfect
Phase 4 – Driving Test
- Only after this phase can a teen get a license to drive alone.
Driver’s ed must last at a minimum, 6’months.

Teen driver’s ed takes at a minimum of 6’months depending on certain met requirements. Our contract to complete your courses are good for one year.
- Teen permit holder must hold a permit for 6-months, be at least 16 years-old, and have completed driver’s ed before eligible to take a driving test.
Yes, you are allowed to take a teen-course as a young adult (25 or younger). You must complete as a teen would and all of the requirements if so. Otherwise, you can take a 6-hour adult course. Click Here to view Adult Driver’s Ed options.
