Position Overview

 

We are seeking an experienced driver examiner to join our team.  We are willing to hire a licensed TDLR instructor who is willing to train and become certified to become an examiner.  As an examiner your will be the last step in the driver’s ed process and determine if a student driver (any age) meets the skill and education requirements to obtain a driver’s license in the State of Texas.  Job will entail greeting the parent and student, review pre-test documents for compliance, orientating the student to the rules and procedures to follow for the test, ensuring the test car meets applicable standards, appraising and evaluating (while on the road) in-car skills by writing out a test sheet, communicating clearly while on the road, post test procedures and document uploading to the DPS. This position is ideal for someone who is organized, communicates well, customer/student focused and takes prides in delivering excellent work while representing our business.

About the Business

We are Mansfield and South Arlington’s oldest driving  school, since 2008.  We were started by teachers, when the school district stopped in-school driver’s ed.  We have continued the tradition of hiring skilled teacher instructors, safety professionals or experienced driver related professionals to be our instructors.  We require a teacher-at-heart ethos.  We are the largest third-party test site in the southern Metroplex.

Key Responsibilities

Greet students and parents and provide a relaxing but professional testing experience

Communicate clearly and professionally regarding pre-test standards, paperwork errors, disqualifications, failed tests and compliance issues

Must maintain detailed and appropriate documentation for state compliance and paperwork requirements. 

Maintain a safe but positive in-car experience for the testing student. Work requires working in different weather and temperature conditions

Stay punctual and reliable on scheduling and meeting testing length requirements

Be able to think on feet with minimal supervision to solve problems that may arise in testing situations.

Duties may include in-car or classroom instructing to supplement scheduling or business needs.

Able to administer a test and/or instruct in a customer’s vehicle without having an instructor brake or instruction mirrors

Although rare, must be able to handle emergencies including crashes or accidents that may require you to take charge of a dynamic safety situation

Able to handle point-of-sales systems, payment upgrades, up selling and after-test document uploading to DPS (includes monitoring and communication to the student)

Qualifications

  • Must hold an active TDLR Instructor License (required)
  • DPS Third Party Examiner License (preferred)
    • If not licensed:
      • must be willing to train
      • learn at home
      • pass two DPS written tests
      • in-car evaluation at the DPS for certification
      • must complete in one-month to be considered
      • DPS training is eligible to be paid 
  • Relevant in-car instruction experience (at least two years)
  • Must have an active and unrestricted driver’s license
  • A licensed driver of more than five years
  • Experience in testing environments, testing centers or detailed visual judging of skill based performance
  • Has an above average knowledge of applicable laws and driving procedures
  • No TDLR sanctions or professional license suspensions
  • Clean driving record
  • Job will include a probationary period
  • No history of bribery, or questionable ethical decisions.
